Engaging with contemporary ceramics, Eleanor’s sculptural practice draws inspiration from the world of luxury fashion and popular culture inspired from the questioning of her own desire to consume. Researching the allure of high-value accessories designed for women, Eleanor’s work plays with the iconography of luxury designer brands. The main question being, why do people buy expensive things? Her use of ceramic material creates permanence that is deliberately handmade and imperfect, in contrast to societies disposable trend culture. This juxtaposes the meticulous artistry often associated with luxury brands, where the artist is not recognized and underpaid. The timely characteristics of hand-built sculpture, departed from perfection, separate the work from the uniformity found in the mass production of designer products.
